“Is something were to happen, I can respond to the alarm call in the app”

Lennart and Margit, both in their 80s, are living their retirement years to the fullest, thanks to the peace of mind provided by their GPS alarm from Careium.

“We’ve been retired for 20 years and are living a happy life. It has its challenges though, because we’re not as agile as we once were. That’s why we have this alarm to help us out and give us more freedom,” says Lennart.

“If something were to happen, I can respond to the alarm call in the app. It gives me a real sense of security when I’m away,” continues Lennart.

Concerns about safety and the need for immediate assistance in case of emergencies were restricting their freedom. Margit’s past experiences with a broken leg and stroke made these concerns more pronounced. The local municipal alarm they previously used only worked within their home, which was limiting.

Understanding these challenges, Careium had the solution: the Abby GPS alarm. The compact device and the accompanying i-care® plus app revolutionised their lives, giving them both a newfound sense of security and freedom.

“It’s great because you feel an enormous sense of security. This alarm works anywhere in the world, while the municipal alarm only worked in our home. That’s the big advantage,” explains Margit.

“Even when I was abroad, I could see where she was. I could check the app and see that Margit had taken a walk around the block,” adds Lennart.

Margit linked the alarm button, Ellis, to her GPS alarm. Designed to resemble a piece of jewellery, the stylish design of Ellis means it can be worn as a necklace. When leaving home, Margit only needs to carry Abby in her bag or pocket for worldwide coverage.

Lennart’s Peace of Mind

Lennart’s active lifestyle includes participating in the 315km Vätternrundan cycling event. With the Abby device, he is assured of Margit’s safety while he is away.

“If something were to happen to Margit I’ll receive a notification in the app. I can then choose to either call Abby or allow the GPS alarm to call me, and then talk directly to Margit via Abby’s speakerphone. If I can’t respond, the call goes to one of Margit’s sons. It gives me a real sense of security,” says Lennart.

The same applies if Margit decides to go out. “If she goes to see her friends or visit the shops, and I stay at home, I know that I’ll receive a notification if something happens, and I can easily check her location in the app” explains Lennart.

Independence for Margit

The GPS alarm also provides Margit with the freedom to carry out her activities independently.

“Before my injury, I did a lot of gymnastics and qigong and it was tough when it had to end so abruptly. Now, although I can’t do as much, I can use my walker to go shopping or stroll through the neighbourhood, safe in the knowledge I can call for help if needed”.

Lennart remembers an incident several years ago when Margit hadn’t returned home on time. He became very worried.

“I had to go out and look for her, but that’s not necessary anymore. The advantage of our new alarm is that we can quickly and easily see where she is. Even though Margit has recovered quite well, it’s reassuring for both me and her adult children that she’s got her mobile safety alarm if something were to happen.”

Abby has significantly improved the quality of life for Lennart and Margit. It provides an effective safety solution that grants them the freedom to stay active and independent, with the assurance that help is just a button-push away.
